چکیده
This work introduces a surface-to-surface contact description in the context of beam-to-beam contact. The introduced is formulated frame absolute nodal coordinate formulation. Leveraging solid element-like features beam formulation and utilizing an interpolation scheme to parameterize cross-section geometry, computationally expensive discretization beam’s thickness directions can be avoided. developed general account for internal external scenarios. Numerical examples illustrate robustness applicability problems comprising beams with arbitrary cross-sectional geometry material nonlinearities. numerical results indicate effectiveness proposed solution entailing various configurations, such as presence coupled large deformation modes within contact, between sharp-edges, scenario where curve-to-curve takes place across beams’ surfaces. Accuracy integrals stability are also examined, respectively using path inf–sup tests. • Surface-to-surface described beams. involves nonlinearity. Beam-inside-beam sharp-edge interactions described. An approximate model for slug flow heat transfer in channels of arbitrary cross section
In this paper, a novel approximate solution to determine the Nusselt number for thermally developed, slug (low-prandtl), laminar, single phase flow in channels of arbitrary cross section is presented. Using the Saint-Venant principle in torsion of beams, it is shown that the thermally developed Nusselt number for low-prandtl flow is only a function of the geometrical parameters of the channel c...
متن کاملGeometrically Nonlinear Theory of Composite Beams with Deformable Cross Sections
Aone-dimensional theory of slender structures with heterogeneous anisotropic material distribution is presented. It expands Cosserat’s description of beam kinematics by allowing deformation of the beam cross sections. For that purpose, a Ritz approximation is introduced on the cross-sectional displacement field, which defines additional elastic degrees of freedom (finite-sectionmodes) in the on...
متن کاملDifferential theory for anisotropic cylindrical objects with arbitrary cross-section
We extend the differential theory to anisotropic cylindrical structures with arbitrary cross-section. Two cases have to be distinguished. When the anisotropic cylinders do not contain the origin, the scattering matrix of the device is calculated from the extended differential theory with the help of the scattering matrix propagation algorithm. The fields outside the cylinders are described by F...
متن کاملDetermining the optimal cross-section of beams
Constrained shape discovery and optimisation are difficult engineering problems. Shape discovery deals with evolving randomly generated solutions into useful intermediate solutions. These intermediate solutions are then optimised to suite their environment. In this paper a Genetic Algorithm (GA) is applied to the problem of finding the optimum cross section of a beam, subject to various loading...
